The Prize

Congrats to the winner of this year's Nobel Peace Prize, Mohamed ElBaradei. He and his organization, the International Atomic Enegy Agency, work to curb nuclear proliferation. The Bush Administration has been at odds with IAEA, so that's more evidence that they're doing something right. Today's AP article states, "ElBaradei suggested winning the world's most prestigious award vidincated his methods and goals---using diplomacy rather than confrontation..." Good choice this year, I say.

I wrote 2 new paragraphs this week, so I will be seeking out some prizes of my own this afternoon. Maybe the new Viggo movie is in my future.

Kudos to Mohamed ElBaradei, the IAEA AND Lee-Dawg for jobs well done (2 paragraphs towards the diss is quite a coup, I'd say). And....while I may have a bit of an audience, KUDOS to Paw-Paw (Lee's dad) and our BEST WISHES to him for his contribution in Chile these upcoming 2 weeks!!!

hey sister woman, I thought the 2 paragraphs was huge, and was not happy with pedro when he seemed underwhelmed. it took me two weeks to get an outline together, and i'm finally starting to write this section. when it's done, i'll have the big theme chapter done and then i can start writing up some analysis. yay.
when does that patriarch head to south america, the 12th???

Lee,
This is in response to your question on Jessie's blog. I used to spend hours grading on weekends also. I only graded the major paper we were working on (so every 3 or 4 weeks), but it would take me forever to get through those essays. I used to have grading marathons at Barnes and Noble, sometimes fellow writing teachers would join me, sometimes not. It was more fun when they did, but not as efficient. I had over 120 students, and I wasn't good at staggering my assignments. It was easier for me on a daily basis to keep all 5 classes close together. But when the due date came, boy did I have a lot of work. I definitely don't miss that part of teaching. But I do miss the rest of it.

Hi Lee,
Question for my elementary school friend. Can you suggest any picture books that are written in both English and another language. Doesn't really matter the language at the moment. I have to modify a lesson for an ESL class I'm taking, and one of my modifications will be to have the kids read a book in their own native in order to practice making connections. The assignment didn't give any specs as to where the ESL learners might be from. If you don't know of any, not a big deal..I can actually bring my butt to the library tomorrow to find one.

Thanks....Cari

Congrats on your accomplishment on the diss. That's gotta feel good and fairly amazing since school is taking up most of your time.
Where is this vm movie being played?

cari,
there's a sandra cisneros picture book about hair called "hair/pelitos" and here are a few others at amazon.

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0679890076/ref=pd_sim_b_4/002-7383062-6385647?%5Fencoding=UTF8&v=glance

There's one about a girl's paintings and I can see the cover in my mind's eye (what does that even mean?) but i can't remember the darn title.

Ms. W., we're trying to find a good time between our children's various activities. yesterday i sat around the house doing not much in between pick ups and drop offs. I did watch Sea of Love for the zillionth time with my fave, Al Pacino, so I guess that's time well spent. I'll call you with el tiempo de la pelicula.

I have the hair/pelitos book. I'm a big Sandra Cisneros fan. Congrats on the two paragraphs. I was most thrilled to hear about hte ElBaradei and IAEA award this past week. A real spit in the eye to the Administration.

Speaking of Avian flu, isn't that an attractive chicken? She is very healthy and quite clever. While we were busy making the chiton, she helped herself through a hole in the screen door (which she, herself, made for this very reason) and came inside to see what the commotion was.
