Oia, Santorini

A few hours left in Santorini.  This place is the perfect place for checking out prehistoric ruins, swimming in the cool Aegean Sea, hiking on mountain paths high above the sea, and peering around in awe and wonder.  We leave tomorrow morning early.  I am hoping someone can have a destination wedding or destination divorce here in Santorini and then invite me to the destination event.  Otherwise, we'll just have to come back for no reason at all.

Destination divorce makes me giggle. In Santorini were there random prehistoric ruins around with no explanation? That's what struck me most about Thessaloniki when we went there - there would be these digs in the middle of the road, kind of like a giant median, with no real signs and people just strolling on by about their day. so cool.

SG, There were some, but there were also 2 important prehistoric ruins site. We went to Akrotiri which was wild. But when we went to Ancient Thera, it was closed on Monday. REGRET!

Athens has a fantastic metro. Many of the stations have excavations in the stations. So wild.

Thessaloniki was recommended to us by a pal. I would like to go there.

We enjoyed Thessaloniki. We mainly went there because we couldn't afford the flight from London to Athens, but it was pretty neat. We got the impression they don't get a lot of American tourists, as the few English speakers we talked with seemed impressed we were visiting there all the way from America.
