The Toe

Husbandman has tennis toe. His toenail turns black and then it falls off and then it grows back and then it turns black again. Tennis toe is part of our lives and probably always will be. It's part of the game for the tennis ace. Especially for the tennis ace who does not wear the proper shoes. Posted by Picasa

Some might question why I would
subject myself to the ostracism that may well result from
revealing such a revolting malady.
To me however, such concerns, real as they may be, are far outweighed by my desire to bring to the public consciousness an increased awareness of this tragic condition that afflicts so many dozens around the world.

To jw--once they fall off, blackened toe nails are indeed kept and can be purchased directly from me for $9.99 plus shipping and handling.

Geez oh Pete! I used to play tennis in highschool in cheap-ass tennies, but never got tennis toe. I never actually won a match, though, which I always blamed on not having a real tennis coach but rather a history teacher who had maybe once picked up a tennis racket and apparently had nothing better to do after school than watch cute highschool girls in tennis shorts. But since I never got tennis toe, I'm now thinking it might've been partly due to a lack of effort on my part, not just bad coaching.

I was just thinking about taking up tennis again. It has been some time (like 30 years!!) since I picked up a racket. I appreciate this public service announcement. I am now going to think again knowing the dangers involved in the game.

In researching philanthropic husbandman's malady, i discovered that tennis toe strikes the older aces more frequently.

jw--for a small fee, I could make you a lovely hardwood display case for the toenail. That way we could all enjoy it when we come to your home :)

Tennis toe is very cool, but I prefer injuries with pus. Is that a possibility with tt?

now you're thinkin', julie.

fyi regarding pus: no pus but a pool of blood behind the nail that can be drained by a podiatrist when painful. ever the stoic, husbandman did not have the blood drained, but patiently endured the pain, and waited for nail to pop off.

Toenails are overated. I Once spent an evening at a TeamInTraining fundraiser talking with marathoners on the best way to camouflage the missing nail if wearing fashionable open toe sandals. Consensus: just paint polish in the shape of the missing nail; no one will notice.

P: buy better shoes *that fit* and lace them up tight. My toes start to fray if I don't lace my running shoes up painfully tight.
