The Miami Marlins

Back when I lived in Miami, (ages 4 to 14), there was no professional baseball.  Sure we had the Dolphins (football), but no baseball.  I am not that in to the new teams.  I hope no new teams get created ever again.  30 teams, no more no less.  Today we are having a little bit of a boring spring break day, reading books and sitting around.  We turned on the tv to see the Marlins lose to the Red Sox in extra innings.  So I have a feeling that the Marlins aren't going to be too good this year.  Their play seemed lackluster.

Hey, I saw the Red Sox vs. Marlins game while I was waiting for the doctor. I see tomorrow's blog idea!

Well, the Marlins aren't really new. Been around since 1990. Just changed their name from Florida Marlins to Miami Marlins (which is nice and alliterative), and got a new stadium.

They weren't there when I was 14. And that makes them new in my book. Those little upstarts.

And - I wonder why, when you wrote about the Red Sox, you ddn't mention that my Uncle Mike (Leaping Mike) played for them??
You can make up for it when you get to the Washington Senators; he played for them too.

I was going to email you this week to find out Uncle Mike's team. I forgot which one it was. I'll remember later. The Senators became the Twins right?

Here's the answer:
There were two Washington Senators baseball teams. The first Washington Senators existed between 1901 -1960 then moved to Minnesota and became the Twins.

Another Washington Senators team was established in 1961 to replace the franchise that moved to Minnesota. This Washington Senators team moved to Texas, and in 1972 became the Texas Rangers.
