The Computer

Today I got this new computer.  All the Literacy Workers got them.  I love it so much.  I need to get some of my own pictures on here, but at least I've figured out the photo problem.  I found this great picture of finches.  I feel very grateful for this new computer.  I'm going to work even harder now and every day of my life from now until eternity.

1. So - are you not going to tell us what kind of computer you got?
2. And, as a Literacy worker, you should be interested in the NYTimes op ed piece link I put on FB.
3. Can you tell me where that park is?
4. Carolyn gave me the book to give to you at the park.
5. Have you read The Magician's Elephant?
6. Have you read The Unfinished Angel?

1. MacBookPro. (coolest computer ever).
2. Yes, I read it and wanted to email it to my pals at work, but nytimes wouldn't let me.
3. one block north of fv. there's a parking lot there. I was thinking you could pick me up outside the front of fv, we could go together, a little early and get set up?
4. Carolyn rocks. Is she coming to Mitzi's?
5. No.
6. No.

JW,
I may be exaggerating!

Great! I would love to pick you up in front of FV, and go together to the park.
A. Early is good, especially since I'm so slow getting around. What time should I be there?
B. You definitely got the super computer. Any special software?
C. Carolyn maybe will not be going to M's house. She's hedging.
D. Tell your pals to read the oped piece via the link on my FB page.
E. Talked to Egawa tonight. Are you staying in touch w/her and Toll?
F. You're the only person Iknow who would use the word "just" regarding a staph infection.
G. You must read those 2 books. And DiCamillo's Journal.

Geez. I just read about staph infections. Not so good. Quite serious. And contagious.

I want to read the NYTimes piece, but I'm not friends with D on Facebook. So, I added you D! I'm Kathleen Williams West. Let's be friends!

I've accepted KC's friendship request.

Very pleased to be friends with D. I have now read the NYTimes op/ed. I shook my head. Those tests are so insane. In the coming weeks, my kids will take the PLAN and the PSAT. I will proctor one or the other.

See that, Lee? You've spawned another friendship.

Say it isn't so. All the schools are testing all the kids today, looking for the bright ones? And what will they do with these kids when they find them?

I'm actually going to let myself sit and eat lunch today. For some reason I've been depriving myself of a lunch hour because I feel so guilty about not being constrained in the classroom all day long.

I've had several days of assessing kids and I decided today I was done with that. I read LIBRARY MOUSE (thanks, jw) to a 1st grade class and then we made cut and staple books. Then I went to 2nd grade and we read and made songs about fall. Then we wrote and we learned how to do some peer editing. It's amazing how excited kids can get over colored pencils.
