The Scotia

Packed up for the trip, but let's face it.  We all know I'm leaving something important behind.  There's no getting around it.  Luckily, as I tell myself most times I travel, I'm not going to a third world country, and most everything I need will most likely also be waiting for me in N. Scotia.  On another fun note, today I was reading twitter on one of my packing breaks, and @librarybeth tweeted from the National Writing Project Summer Institute about a conversation they were having about some work I did on critical literacy and social narratives.  This really made my day and made me feel even more committed to the writing projects I've been working on this summer.  Of course vacation to Scotia's going to break up the work plan, but that's okay.  Phyllis Korkki says, "To Stay On Schedule, Take a Break."  Anyway, the point of all this is: Twitter is the best thing ever invented.  I wish I could live tweet my vacation, but I'm not sure I can tweet in other countries.  I'll find out. Just keep calm and carry on.

So, we're in the airport now. Everything's going smoothly. Starbucks, check. Magazines, check.

Just think of all the other places they are discussing your work and you don't even know about it!

Thank you Nance! We're all huddled up in front of a fake fire and the bachelorette. 102? I like the cool sea breezes here.
Glad you are tweeting! BTW, I think you are watching like a minute or two ahead of us...? At least you knew about the puppets before I did ;)

Hey Mandie. Love being ahead of the game. That puppet thing was so stupid.

Foggy Morning. Whale Watcher Guy won't take us out because he says we won't "see anything." Shouldn't we be the judge of what we see and don't see?

Most glorious day ever. Tell you about it later.

Started the day at rocky Mary Anne Water Falls. Played pooh sticks. then lunch at Neil's Harbor.

Have seen this week 2 live vibrant harbor seals, and then today we saw a dead harbor seal on the beach. Neil told us "He took a bullet in him."
"What? Who shot him?"
"Well he's no friend to the fisherman."
"So they killed him?"
They did. He's about 600 pounds. If he's alive, he's messing with the nets, following after the mackerel.

Geez. That shook us up a bit. Later we went on a 5 mile windy hike that felt like a hurricane. Kind of exhilarating. Back in the car, we saw 2 moose. So beautiful.

We hiked to skyline trail. Windiest place on the planet. Almost died from wind. But the views of the St. Lawrence. so stunning. And then the 2 moose once we got back into the car. just felt really happy all day.

but don't you think it's sad about the seal getting shot by the fisherman?

That is awful! I hope it wasn't photographed and tweeted like the dead bird. That was too much for me. Wish you didn't have to see such a sight, but I guess those things happen as we try to live with wildlife. Let's forget that part, please.

#1 son took a photo. He titled it, "Death of a Lonely Hunter."

It might end up on the blog, let's face it. This stuff is pretty fascinating.

Today we had a long drive to Halifax and then we visited the Nova Scotia Art Gallery. Cool exhibits there.

We must wake at 5am to head to the airport tomorrow. Will be so good to be home, and I have loved Nova Scotia.
