The Podcast

Even though spring break's been a complete capital D for DRAG so far, I did read a great book, Shanghai Girls by Lisa See, and today I even felt well enough to make a podcast about the book. I didn't feel like going into plot details but I do raise some interesting somewhat related points during the podcast and if you click right here you can listen to it if you want to.

I thoroughly enjoy comments/interviews from people who haven't read the book. Way too funny. As soon as you started to talk about the sequel, I said to myself "Lee doesn't read sequels" and then you piped in and told us you wouldn't read the sequel. Thanks for sending the Anne Tyler along with Gracie!

This was another great podcast. I just love the podcasts. A terrific addition to ALL. My students have loved another Lisa See book, Snow Flower and the Secret Fan. I had it as a choice book for a couple of years, and the people who picked it just really enjoyed it. So, now I want to read Shanghai Girls, too. I'm finishing up Noah's Compass. I'll probably be finished with it sometime this week.

Did you know I've also been to a bunch of Chinese cities? I have NOT been to Shang Hai, but I have been to Beijing and to Kunming and I took a train through a bunch of others. I also lived in Xian for 6 months with my mom in 1988. One of my students this year, Clara, is Korean but went to an international school in Beijing for several years. After the earthquake, though, all of the Cargill families were moved out of Beijing, so she moved to Edina. Her dad works in Korea, but her parents thought she'd do better in an American school, so here she is. I really like her, and I'm glad she asked me to write one of her college recs.

Hey N, thx for listening. I wonder if I'll read the Kavalier and Clay. Over 600 pp. Gotta think on this.

KC, I vaguely remember you talking about this. Do yu have any pix. It would be cool to do some retro blogging about your time in this cool country.

1. I enjoyed your podcast, as always. So clever of you to include an interview with someone who has not read the book, but has been to Shanghai. And the musical segues were quite appropriate.
I read this book, and liked it very much.
2. Once again - you've posted a great photo. You MUST get back to JPG.
3. If you're still ailing, I don't want your germs, but I need to know whether or not you will be gracing me with your presence tomorrow (Wednesday).

I'm feeling better today and would love to come over tomorrow. I was hesitant to reply yesterday because I was still blowing my nose a lot. I'm feeling a lot better today, but I think we'll still have to air hug.

Ok - air hugs it is.
Can you give me an approximate time?
