The Pimp


Husbandman and I split in our reviews of Hustle and Flow, the film about a pimp who tries to become a rap star. I have a bias against pimps that makes me a less than objective viewer. When the pimp sits in his car thinking up song lyrics all day and sends the main investor prostitute climbing into cars for 20$ tricks, that gets on my last nerve. I am also frosted by the song that’s sung over and over again during the film, “It’s hard out here for a pimp, Trying to get the money for the rent.” Boo hoo on you pal. I don’t feel sorry for you. Sadly, I can’t get the song out of my mind and whenever I sing it at home, husbandman tells me, “You know you love that movie.”

Uh. What's the picture of a chair for? Is that like, metaphorical or something? Well, I hate pimps, so what you should have seen was THE ISLAND. It's full of racey plot twists and twisty chase scenes! Also, there are wet people in plastic sacks and flying cars. -R

I want to see Hustle and Flow, but you make a good point about the "tough" life of a pimp. Ros makes a good point too about the flying cars in The Island. Maybe I'll see both movies anyway.

i wish someone would go see vince and owen with me. at noon, jdoc told me she was free tonight, tomorrow, and saturday; and then at three when I called to make plans, she was already busy at all of those times.

what gives?

R, I just loved the chair picture and had to get it on the blog at some point. I may see the island this weekend. Not crazy about chase scenes, but people in plastic sacks? Count me in.
J and KC, Remember to keep the expectations low for Owen and Vince. Judy went and didn't like it.

I would have a hard time feeling any kind of sympathy for a pimp. Does the movie want you to feel sympathy for him? I haven't even heard of either Hustle and Flow or The Island. I must participate in the scene more. I've been early to bed and up with the chickens lately. Basically, a total bore, and it is starting to wear on me.

I forgot to say, I totally love that chair. I am really into chairs. I don't have good chairs and so I endlessly lust after very cool chairs.

I think the movie makes him more heroic as it rolls along. one review was accurate about the first half not taking a stand one way or the other, but the second half endorsing him. American Graffiti in the park tonight, J. Game???
