The Lotus

Another lotus has come and gone. The music this year was phenomenally unusual. The Black Sufis breaking melons on their heads, Jake Shimabukuro's blurry fingers on his electrified ukulele, the Balkan Beatboxers hanging from the tent rafters, dancing to Funkadesi in the street. On and on I could go, but the point is that the Lotus Festival is weird and wonderful. Please plan to attend in 06. Posted by Picasa

This sounds way cool.

Perhaps jdoc and I should plan an annual sojourn to Bloomington?!?!

Also, I think the twitch will go away soon. As soon as school is a routine and stuff. Never fear.

Lotus totally rocks! I can't figure out how to get my west coast friends and family here for the event. I talk it up, but to no avail. Actually, it's hard to get people to Bloomington period.

One reason Lotus is such a cool event is that even though there are 7 or 8 stages with music events at the same time, it's really managable--not hoards of people--just gleeful crowds going from venue to venue.

More than one of our international musical visitors said that Bloomington is one of the best places they've ever played or "the best." We love our world music here. Coastal people--there is at least one cool thing in flyover country--take the plunge in 06.

I talk Lotus up every year, to anyone who will listen. Have I converted one single non-believer? No! And I talk it up with such love, such zeal. I simply cannot convince people that this is one of the most amazing events they will ever attend. Some of this year's musicians had me sitting there with my mouth hanging open in complete stunned awe. Had fun dancing in the streets at Funkedesi with you, girlfriend!

Oh, forgot to respond to greek day request-- Come! Bring the boychild, yards of fabric, greekish looking ribbon and golden rope-like trim and we will call upon the spirit of Bacchus to guide us through the process ;)

It is hard to get people to Bloomington, but KC and JDOC are coming, so let's have a pretend lotus while they're here. Q can wear a Mexican wrestling mask and play harmonica. R can play guitar while sitting in a tree in the backyard. I'll dance beneath.
Julie, I'll find out the details about the chaiton and get back to you. with gratitude!, lh.
