The Union

Judy and I signed up to be the new union reps at school. I've been wanting to get more involved in the union for awhile. I really want to get rid of standardized testing. And I'm hoping to reduce class sizes after that. Posted by Picasa

You go girlfriend. Have you heard about the law suit in, I believe, Connecticut, over the financial mess and complete uselessness of "No Child Left Behind", and the teachers who are complaining that they actually have to "dumb down" their standards in order to comply, because their standards have been higher than NCLB for twenty years? Interesting case...I'd be interested in your take on it as a teacher.

Noble pursuits. Can you also get us a new president?

I never appreciated my union until I moved here to Minnesota and worked at a charter school.

gosh, i'm so glad you're on the case!!

i sometimes hate my union, even though i KNOW that i like it in general. here's the reason i hate it: everyone is encouraged to be exactly the same. no financial benefit in working to be the best you can be... and plus, it's because of the union that i couldn't have my pt job.

Hi Julie, I've been following that Connecticut story. I'm really curious about what will happen there.
jdoc, I'm working on the new president thing, She'll be in place in 2008.
Cari and KC, unions are tricky groups. I hope my stint this year is not a let down. It might be interesting to meet some people from the other schools. This was our first day, it went well.
