The Mess

The process for a new chapter of the diss works like this. I sit and stare and sigh for a week or two. I get an idea and start fooling around. The idea turns into a huge out of control mess. That's the stage I'm in right now. The mess stage is exasperating and exhilarating at the same time. I recognize with every move that so much more needs to be done. At the same time, there's a lot of cool stuff to work with and so the time on the diss is interesting. When the diss work is in this stage, I feel pretty good. Good enough to blow off reading the 60 memoirs lurking in my tote bag to head out to see Capote. Posted by Picasa

I know what you mean about the mess. Sometimes, direction is overrated.

I've heard that movie is tops. Anxious to get your take on it.

Also, Quinn looks totally mod and grown up in this pic.

Finally, good work on the diss. :)

direction is just wrong. Explore several alternatives. That's what I tell my reports. They seem to arrive thinking that this stuff is just a-b-c-d-e... totally linear. NO!!! *I* don't know what the best way is... you have to explore. Or, I'm just clueless - your call.

What did you think of Capote? I thought all the acting was excellent. I loved the actress who played Harper Lee in particular. It was not a very flattering portrait of Mr. Capote.

Hi Kate, I thought Capote was excellent. And I loved Catherine Keener too. She's a fave.

I agree that our friend Truman doesn't shine like a beacon in the integrity show. I want to read more about him. And I want to read In Cold Blood too. But the movie is a must see I think. Hoffman really nailed it.

I loved reading my students memoirs. Memories of the soul. That's what we called them.

"In Cold Blood" is going to be one of my vacation books, along with "The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time". Haven't seen Capote or the Johnny Cash movie yet. We rarely go to movies for some reason. Eventually everything comes out on video and then we watch it in our pajamas.

Hi Cari, I've edited 5. 55 to go. Please wish me luck. My fave so far has been one about hiding behind a particular bush in the backyard. I remember doing stuff like that.
J, Curious Incident is good. When do you leave on the trip of my dreams?
