The Openness

Last night was our first informational night for people who might want to transfer their kids to our
artful learning school.  2 families came.  It was dispiriting.  We have to keep plugging along, and we do.
The other dispiriting thing that's happening at this moment in time is the loss of my dear #1 son to a weekend trip to visit 20 something daughter.  I know they'll have fun, but I am crying to have both of them gone.  I prefer them to be home.  It's time for me to suck it up and do something a little on the wild side to take myself out of my funk.  Hence, I'm blogging at work.  This might do the trick.

The Review

Saw Marwencol last night.  It's a great documentary about this guy who created a World War II Belgian town in his backyard with dolls and little buildings and complex story lines.  This guy considered
his town a type of therapy because he was viciously attacked years ago, leaving him with both physical and mental impairments.
As I watched the movie, the dolls became much more realistic and life like.  Husbandman and #1 thought the same.
Try to see this film if you want to.  You will like it.

The Birthday

This week was the birthday of this blog.  Six years ago, around Feb 6 or something like that, I started blogging.
I want to tell this blog something.  Blog, I just love the heck out of you.  And happy birthday.

Stupid Weather Reflections

I kind of want to see that Justin Bieber movie, but # 1 son really does not want me to see it.  He has told me repeatedly that I should not go to see it. I don't want to break that sacred bond between us so I'll probably just do something else instead.
Right now we're heading to the Art Museum to see various works of art. Everyone I've spoken to today keeps talking about how great it is that it's warmer today and the sky is blue.  Whatev.  It's still 30 degrees and I slipped last night on some ice and this morning I had to walk like a penguin to get to my car.  I'm not ready to tell the cheerful isn't this great weather story? I'm just not feeling it.  Really not a weather wimp, but I'm
not falling for the spring is coming narrative.  That's just plain idiotic, given that it's Feb. 12 and we're not above freezing.

The Thing

It's snowing again.  Seriously snowing.  It's a beautiful snowfall but I'm probably going to sit here
doing nothing most of the day because of it.  Last night we saw Keb Mo and that was delightful.  But here's the thing.  Most of the people were older people like us watching the show.  And these people kept shouting out obnoxious things, which did displease me.  Keb Mo didn't seem all that amused by it either, but he's probably more used to it.  It's fine to clap, give an occasional whoop, but do you really need to become part of the show with stupid inane comments?  Are you intoxicated?  Is that the problem? I basically do not want to hear your words AT ALL when I'm watching Keb Mo.  Overall, though, great show, Keb Mo.  Thanks!  And thanks for the tickets, E and B.  We loved almost every minute of it.

The Thing

Every few minutes I think, Hey LEEWAY, stop spending so much time on the internets.
PULL IT TOGETHER and go do something creative and purposeful.  But here's the thing.
I keep running across stuff like this and I just think, Thank God I just saw this.  Because this is super fun and puts me in a good mood.

The Names

Well, a friend posted this as her facebook status today, "Off to Zanzibar on holiday."  I don't even know where Zanzibar is.  Zanzibar sounds so wonderful and exotic. A facebook status like this makes me reflect on my own life, and not too favorably if you must know. I am really not doing much these days.  Maybe a movie once in awhile.  Walking 20 feet out into the backyard to take some pix of the ice.  Contemplating making a meal in the CROCKPOT! WOOHOO!  Not much else.  Gotta step up my game.

The Ice

I did not want #1 son to venture out into the ice storm this afternoon, but a bunch of his pals came over and they talked me in to letting him go out for a bit.  Even though he was only going about 6 blocks, I hesitated, fearing the treacherous storm abrewin'.  His friends all stared at me while I tried to decide.  "I'm usually a fairly lenient parent...." I muttered lamely.
"But this ice is complicating things, isn't it?" a helpful Teen offered sympathetically,
"It really is, Teen. I'm having high anxiety."  In the end #1 got to go out for a bit of course, but now he's back home safe and sound, eating chicken.  Relief.

The Shoelace

This is weird.  As the credits for 127 Hours rolled, Husbandman tried to stand, but his shoelace was trapped in some crevice in the seats in front of him.  "Oh my god, I might have to cut my leg off! Look at this!  I'm stuck!"
"Have you been planning this for the entire movie?" I asked him.
"No!  SWEAR TO GOD! I'm stuck!  HELP!"
He pulled his shoelace out, freeing himself, and made it out of the theater safely. Kind of an odd coincidence.

The Greatness

Today's off to a great start.  Had to fast last night so I could get a little health check up for insurance purposes. Early appointment, no coffee, out in the freezing cold, needle in my arm, blood removed, measurements of my body, handed a piece of paper that tells me I'm obese and then given a survey to fill out regarding my satisfaction with today's visit.  I have to say, the whole thing's kind of brought me a little down.  This is just not the way I like to start a day.
